How To Write Website Content For Your Site AND For The Search Engines

seoimprovement-974061_960_720Your website content should always be written to appeal to your human readers as well as the search engines.

Ideally, you want to get your website and your business to appear on the first page of Google and other search engines.

So how do you achieve this?

By making sure that your content is written with SEO in mind.

What is SEO and Why Does it Matter?

SEO or “search engine optimization” means configuring your website content to have the best chances of ranking more highly in the search engine results.

By making sure your website content is properly search engine optimized or “SEO’d” your business will be able to appear on the front page or nearer of the search engines.

If your content isn’t written with proper regard to SEO, then your site will appear much lower down in the search engines, or even not at all.

Keywords Are The Basis of SEO

SEO is based on keywords. So what are keywords?

Keywords are the search terms or phrases that people type into a search engine, for example “pizza restaurant in Boston”

Each time a person types anything into a search engine, they will get a different result.

This means that “Boston pizza restaurant” will bring up slightly different results to “pizza restaurant in Boston”

Before you write your content, you need to define the keywords that you want to include in your content. Obviously you are going to want to identify the keywords that your potential customers will be most likely to use when they are searching for your kind of service.

How Many Keywords Should Your Content Contain?

If it’s for your own website, then I recommend a maximum of 5% of the total word count.

If your content is for article directories or Web 2.0 platforms, then you need to bear in mind the rules applying to that platform.

For example Ezine Articles sets a maximum limit of 2% keywords as a proportion of total word count. Anything greater than this will be rejected and not published.

Why Keyword Stuffing Is Bad

Placing more than 2-5% of keywords in your content is regarded by Google and others as “keyword stuffing” and search engines disregard or even penalize it.

So how do you rank your content for your chosen keywords? You do this by placing your keywords in a number of specific places.

Where Are The Best Places To Put Your Keywords?

The title tag of your page is the most important place of all to put a keyword.

When people search for something in the search engine, you get back a list of results. This list contains blue headlines with black text underneath.

Secondly, you need to include your keyword in the first paragraph of your content. This is the black content that you see in the search engine result after the blue headline.

You also place your keywords throughout the main body of content of your page.

Split up your content into sets of paragraphs with sub-headings. Make sure as far as possible that every sub-heading contains one of your keywords.

Finally, make sure that you include your primary keyword and a couple of your other keywords in your final paragraph.

Install The Yoast SEO WordPress Plugin On Your Website

if you are publishing your content on your own website, you should also make sure that your website has a professional SEO plugin installed. This will assist in configuring the SEO for your articles.

The SEO Plugin I recommend is WordPress SEO by Yoast. This is available for sites free of charge.

The majority of businesses still don’t understand SEO and don’t know how to use it properly.

If you take the trouble to make sure that your website content is always written with SEO in mind, then your website and your business will have a head start on the Web over the competition.

How Can I Utilize My Website Content To Win Customers And Make More Sales?

Too many businesses and websites under-utilize their website’s content potential because they don’t understand the techniques involved in Content Marketing.

By utilizing proper Content Marketing techniques, your website can achieve far better results than the big corporates can- and for very little outlay.
